1 killed, 3 injured in Wisconsin car accident

Even in the best of conditions, driving can be complicated. When the weather is perfect and there are no distractions in a vehicle, a car accident could still happen. As a result, it is especially important that when weather conditions are less than ideal, additional attention is paid. Unfortunately, one Wisconsin man recently lost his life in a car accident believed to have been caused by another driver who failed to stop for a stop sign.

The accident happened just before 11 a.m. one morning in mid-December. Police claim that an 81-year-old driver was traveling east when a witness reports he failed to stop at a stop sign. As a result, he allegedly struck a southbound van. The van reportedly hit a ditch before rolling several times and coming to a stop on its roof.

The 78-year-old man driver of the van died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the accident. A passenger in his vehicle -- his wife -- and both occupants of the first vehicle suffered minor injuries. There was reportedly fog in the area at the time of the accident. It is unclear if charges are expected to be filed as a result of the accident.

While the potential emotional ramifications of such a car accident may be clear, the financial consequences may be more complicated. The deceased victim and his wife owned a business together, and his death could have an impact on the business and the woman's livelihood. In addition to the business, the wife will have to cope with funeral expenses and related costs. Many people who have lost a loved one due to another's claimed negligence have sought financial relief in a Wisconsin court. A successfully argued case could result in an award of monetary damages to help relieve the financial burden created by such a loss.
