Charges filed after alleged drunk driving accident in Wisconsin

Most people are aware of the potential consequences of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Unfortunately, people in Wisconsin still make the risky decision to drink and drive. For example, police believe that alcohol was a factor in a recent accident that injured nine people.

The accident happened one night in early September. Police claim that the driver of a pickup truck ran a red light before striking a second vehicle. A passenger in the pickup claims that the driver, a 27-year-old woman, drank several beers before the accident. He further states that he warned the driver of the upcoming traffic light, but she apparently accelerated instead of attempting to stop.

After the accident, police say that the driver ran from the scene. She was taken into custody a short time later. She now faces almost 30 charges as a result of the collision. Nine people were injured in the accident, including at least one person in the second car who required transportation to the hospital by helicopter and is currently in the intensive care unit. Police say that the woman now charged admitted that she was driving without a license and that she had been driving the pickup.

Those involved in the accident were fortunate that it was not fatal. As it is, the injuries suffered will likely result in significant medical bills and possibly time missed from work. Many people in Wisconsin who have been injured as a result of a driver's negligence have sought justice in the civil court. Those who have successfully presented their case have been awarded damages to help them cope with the financial consequences of an accident.
